The Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act) is an Australian law that regulates the handling of personal information about Australian citizens. Personal information can be defined as information or an opinion about an identified or identifiable individual.

The Privacy Act includes thirteen Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) that set out standards, rights and obligations for the handling, holding, use, disclosure, accessing and correction of personal information (including health information).
