PCI DSS
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is the global data security standard adopted by the payment card brands to protect payment card data. It applies to all organisations that process, store or transmit cardholder data and/or sensitive authentication data.
Organisations are imposed with strict data controls by PCI Compliance to protect cardholder data. They are required to maintain a secure network with strong access controls that is regularly monitored and tested.
Non-compliance or in the event of a data breach, companies can be fined up to $100,000.
